The Iron Age by Nicolas Gardel & the Headbangers
Had never heard of this trumpet player or his band, but the cover, the blurb on the CD and the name pushed me to give it a try. And it's good stuff. It sits in between Snarky Puppy and Pat Metheny's ensemble work. It's a small band (a quintet) but it sounds like a much larger band, in part I suspect because of the much heavier guitar sound than what you'd expect in most jazz albums. And that is what makes this a little different and fun. It's a bland of heavy rock, funk, electro-pop (but without machines) and jazz, and surprisingly, it works.
