Fabulous Phineas by Phineas Newborn Jr.
I guess no artist would dare to entitle one of his albums like this today, it would be seen as unbelievably pretentious. And yet Phineas Newborn is undoubtedly fabulous. I was first made aware of his legacy in some of Eric Legnini's interviews (and indeed there are two tracks from this album covered on Legnini's "Miss Soul") and found a record of his (Plays Again!) with the most amazing version of Night in Tunisia I've ever heard. Since then I've occasionally bought other of his records and rarely been disappointed. He may not always go to the depth of feeling that I find with Oscar Peterson, but there's a playful, groovy quality to his music that's uniquely his. Old school, but well worth the trip if you're into 50s-60s jazz.
