Suite for Battling Siki by Mauro Gargano
I'd never heard of Mauro Gargano before I saw this record in a store in Paris. The cover grabbed me, and the presence of Jef Ballard (dms), Manu Codija (g) and Bojan Z (p, kbs) in the line-up did the rest. I don't regret it: it's a very modern, organic feeling record that tells the story of boxer Battling Siki in sonic format. It's edgy but not too out, very listenable, with a hint of Pat Metheny in the compositions. Really good stuff.
