Innri by the Reykjavik Big Band with Joel Palsson
I discovered Joel Palsson's 'Horn' on my trip to Iceland last year and loved it. Modern, groovy jazz just as I like it. This year I picked this album of Palsson compositions played by the Reykjavik Big Band with Palsson on tenor. I've only had a couple of listens, but I know I like it already. It's in a similar vein to Bigre's Tohu Bohu: big band music that strays away form the swing jazz DNA, ambitious compositions that still adhere to groove. I don't know that it sounds Icelandic, but it sounds good, and that's really all I care about.
