Paseo a Dos by Renaud Garcia-Fons & Dorantes

Paseo a Dos by Renaud Garcia-Fons & Dorantes

I generally buy everything that Garcia-Fons releases, but I am occasionally disappointed as with his previous album (Silk Moon), decidedly too romantic for me. Garcia-Fons has a romantic streak in him, and his long bow lines, virtuosistic as they may be occasionally overdo it (to my taste) in sweetness. Here though the source material is flamenco (improbably powered by double bass and piano) and the nervous playing of Dorantes tames (and in fact emboldens) Garcia-Fons' own melodic lines. Clearly a win.
