I can't remember who recommended this to me, but I can only thank them. Chiisakobé tells the story of Shigeji who inherits his parents' construction business after they die in a fire. He is bereaved but also proud beyond reason. He refuses most help in keeping the business afloat and must also deal with inconvenient arrangements made by his parents before they passed. Although this first volume sets the tone more than advances the story, it's clear the story will revolve around the relationship between Shigeji and Ritsu, the young helper at his parents' home. One of the delights of Chiisakobé besides the story is the insane attention to detail in the drawings and composition of the pages. My photographer's eye was constantly drawn to the construction of the panels. Really good stuff, volumes 2 and 3 are on their way.
