Multiquarium Big Band by Charlier/Sourisse

Multiquarium Big Band by Charlier/Sourisse

I've known and enjoyed Charlier (dms) and Sourisse (kbs) for their work with JJ Milteau and Romane. I never really delved into their own work. This album was recommended by a friend, and what a good recommendation. I love the whimsy that transpires in this ambitious yet eminently joyous jazz ensemble. From the infectious banjo groove of the opener l'Afrobeat Improbable to the heavy beat of the closer Chance Dance, this is a double marvel of 13 long tracks. If you like Snarky Puppy but also some of Metheny's ensemble work, this should feel right at home, but with its own spicy Frenchness. Highly recommended.
