Orchestrales by Elise Caron

Orchestrales by Elise Caron

Elise Caron is an astonishing singer with an amazing level of control over her voice but still a lot of emotion as well. She also writes oddly poetic and often provocative lyrics. Her style if full of aliterations and innuendos and repetitions and puns. I absolutely loved her album Eurydice Bis and so I had to get this one which is (mostly) reinterpretations of her previous songs recorded with a string ensemble. It took me a while to go through the whole thing: this isn't easy listening, because the texts require an attentive ear and because the arrangements are quite odd. Ultimately though, it's a bit of a dissapointment: I come to the conclusion that Caron's style is better served by the minimalism of her previous recordings. The lushness of the strings deters from the lyrics more than enhances them in my opinion. It's still a very interesting album, but it lacks the emotional power of Eurydice Bis.
