It takes a very particular kind of band to release an album such as this Zonkey. In an era of electronically assisted mashups, Umphrey's McGee climbs the same mountain by the decidedly more perilous north face and releases an album of mashups recorded live in the studio. Like all mashups, there's a moment of delight when you figure out what the unlikely combination is. Unlike most mashups, there's a more lingering effect beyond the cleverness of the combination. This is something they've been doing at concerts for over a decade, they know their way around it. Hard to say if any of the mashups will have lasting appeal, but it sure is a pleasant repeated listen.
