I'm a huge Ben Hatke fan, so saying I was eagerly awaiting his new graphic novel Mighty Jack is clearly an understatement. Suffice it to say that I am not disappointed in the least, only frustrated by the clearly serial nature of the story. Mighty Jack is a distant and modern retelling of the Jack and the Beanstalk story, but it quickly departs from the canon. It's cool, has nods to other Hatke intellectual properties, is full of action and has that special little bit of emotion that makes every one of Hatke's books so unique. Go and buy it now. Oh, and for those with Zita loving kids, this may be more suitable to say 9-10 year olds and teens than to 5+ like Zita was.
