Coquelicots d'Irak by Brigitte Findalky and Lewis Trondheim
Brigitte Findalky is Mrs. Trondheim, and she's been colouring his graphic novels since time immemorial. What I didn't know is that she is half Iraqui, half French and lived most of her youth in Irak. If you think a youth in Saddam's Irak makes for an interesting subject, you'd be right, and Coquelicots d'Irak manages to be at times funny, at times touching and at times terrifying. Overall though, it lacks structure, as if Findalky and Trondheim had hesitated to go the story path and instead had gone halfway to Trondheim's own "Little Nothings". Sadly the book suffers from this lack of focus making it not as effective and entertaining as it could have been.
