Paradise by The Wood Brothers

When the Wood Brothers shifted from a duo with occasional guests to a trio on Muse, they lost me to a certain extent. I'd skipped Paradise as a consequence. To be fair, Paradise is way better than Muse, with more memorable tunes, but it's also allowed me to understand what I was missing from the duo setting: the role of Chris Wood's double bass is much more subdued in this incarnation, and it was his distinctive playing and upfront role that really made the band for me in Ways Not to Lose, Loaded, Above My Head and (to a lesser extent) Smoke Ring Halo. So not a bad album, but nowhere near as good and special as the earlier ones...
