That Thing by Zozophonic Orchestra

My attention was attracted to the Zozophonic Orchestra's Kickstarter a few months back because of the overlap with Bigre!'s line up (same drummer, Bigre's bassist is one of the guitarists here and the horn players overlap as well) but also because of this promise of a blues influenced groove. The album was well worth the wait and it's everything promised and more. It feels like a unique take on groove, drawing from all sorts of influences without sounding like anything I've ever heard, really. I've already listened to it 3 or 4 times since getting the mp3s and it's just a delight. It's raw, groovy and most importantly fun. I am once more led to reflect that jazz musicians who produce non jazz music in earnest produce the best.
