Le Rapport de Brodeck by Manu Larcenet
For French comic afficionados, Larcenet is mostly known for his early comic work, but he always published darker, more confidential graphic novels. In recent years that has been most of his output and (to be fair) I pushed back on reading Le Rapport de Brodeck in the fear that it would be too dark. Truth be told, it is very dark, but also amazing. The sticky, grimy atmosphere of this post-war rural village, with its load of dark stories is fantastically rendered. This is probably Larcenet's finest graphic work as well, starkly black and white. This is a masterpiece, but not one to be read if you're in a gloomy mood already. (2 volumes)
