Strange Circles by Bokanté
The latest project of Snarky Puppy's prolific Michael League is Carribean tinged with singer Malika Tirolien belting it out in her native guadaloupe creole. The arrangements are percussion heavy and clever though a little stiff perhaps (this is what comes of recording before touring...) The presence of Roosevelt Collier on lap steel guitar adds a welcome touch of southern gospel. It's a really good record although the songs in French are a notch below the rest, probably because the lyrics are lame.
