Mighty Jack and the Goblin King by Ben Hatke

Mighty Jack and the Goblin King by Ben Hatke

The first installment of the Mighty Jack trilogy was a wonderful mix of rural fantasy (for lack of a better word) and subtle relationships. It ended on a frankly insufferable cliffhanger that is mostly resolved here. This book has a different feel though, certainly not so subtle and emotional. What it lacks in subtlety, it compensates in spectacular action. It's much more of a thrill than the previous one. And the ending, while not a cliffhanger per se... it's nearly as frustrating as the ending of the previous one. Magnificent stuff from Hatke, as always.
