Duke & Thelonious by Les Musiques à Ouïr
I first heard this project opening for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band years ago near Paris. I loved it live and so when I had the opportunity to buy the record I did. I probably don't know the works of Duke Ellington or Thelonius Monk enough to analyse the record in depth, but any casual listening picks up aspects of both Ellington and Monk, sometimes in the same pieces. It's a thoroughly thrilling record, full of madness and swing.
