Les Montagnes Hallucinées by Gou Tanabe
This is a manga adaptation of Lovecraft's novella At the Mountains of Madness. My son got it for xmas and I belatedly read it. I used to love Lovecraft in my youth, but with age I found my self less and less subject to his particular prose (The Call of Cthulhu is about the only one of his short stories that still works on me). The manga here is very faithful to the novella and... scared me about as much which is to say not at all. Don't get me wrong, it's gorgeous, but there is zero tension there. It's a first volume, so I'll give it a bit of a pass in the hope that the second installment actually kicks it up a notch, but... let's just say I wasn't impressed.
