Bons Temps Roulés by Bernard Hermann

I purchased this photo book by chance, probably pushed by my love for all things New Orleans and it is honestly one of the best photo books I've ever perused. To think that these truly fantastic photos of Black New Orleans in the late 70s / early 80s have sat in a drawer for close to 35 years before this book being finally made boggles the mind. Hermann's style is documentary photography with a flair. His lens is solely focused on the black community (the only photo that breaks that rule is a photo of a klan's member in full regalia) and explores all aspects of their daily and cultural lives. I did not have time to read the long postface where he tells the story of the photos and I had to leave the book in France because it was too heavy for my suitcase, but I will go and read that postface next time. Very highly recommended.
