Helen of Wyndhorn by Tom King

Helen of Wyndhorn by Tom King

I regularly scan recommended graphic novels, and while Helen of Wyndhorn isn't collected as a graphic novel yet, the first 6 issues do make a fully enclosed story, although one that is clearly calling for a sequel. There are two timelines in Helen of Wyndhorn, one centered on Helen herself, a young woman, daughter of a fantasy author who committed suicide. She is brought back to her grandfather's manor by a governess hired by said grandfather, only to discover that the fantasy his father wrote about may not have been as imagined as she thought. In parallel, we get short snippets of more modern happenings, with the testimonials of the governess slowly making their way through various scholars and fans of Helen's father's work. The first thread comes to a satisfying resolution for now, the second doesn't. And I really hope there is a follow up because while not mind-blowing, and surfing on Mythago style themes, it's really quite good.
