Skoki Mama by Skokiaan Brass Band
The Skokiaan Brass Band is undoubtedly one the most of interesting, if not the most interesting French brass band. They have fully consumed and digested their New Orleans influences, but are now using that vocabulary to branch further out. Their previous album was very much blending chanson française with NOLA brass to excellent effect, this one is straying further abroad with an undertone of African influences and guests. Listening to Skoki Mama, you're going to shake your butt, you're going to sing, and you're going to travel. From France (Poussière) to Mississipi (Delta Bound) to the wider West (Big Boy) to Benin (Takoradi) and beyond. The album's been on heavy rotation ever since I got it, and I cannot recommend it enough.
