The Lost Broadcast by Dr John

The Lost Broadcast by Dr John

I still remember when I first became aware of this recording. A friend had posted a video to the song "Live" from this recording, and it blew my mind. I immediately went and bought the digital version. As I was reviewing Hollywood Be Thy Name I realised that since I had acquired this in 2013, three years before I started my reviews, I had never reviewed it. This is that review. If you like your Dr John more rock than jazz, more weird than straight and more ensemble than piano, this is the live for you. Don't get me wrong, I like Dr John in most configurations, but this live is, to my ears, the essence of his early successful years. It's full of that bizarre gombo of musical and cultural influences, the music is astoundingly good, and while the sound isn't perfect (it's a radio broadcast) it's very decent. I honestly don't have a single bad thing to say about this. If you like Dr John, go get it now. If you like jazz/blues influenced 70s rock, give it a listen, you'll probably fall in love.
