Remedies by Dr. John
Continuing my exploration of early Dr. John albums I didn't know, and Remedies is bang in the middle of that series of fixe albums (all the way to Gumbo) considered part of that era (and progressively more mainstream). There's still a lot of the charm that made Gris-Gris stand out here: a laid-back feel, slightly off kilter instrumentation, references to Voodoo and New Orleans, etc. Loop Garou is a killer that could be considered part of that early period. The rest of the side one tracks have varying degrees of voodoo, some of them hint at the next phase of his carreer. Side two is an unexpected and surprisingly listenable 17mn ramble, Angola Anthem. All in all a decent listen with a couple of gems, not bad.
