Yūsaku au crépuscule by Yaro Abe

Yūsaku au crépuscule by Yaro Abe

Despite its somewhat repetitive nature, I still love and enjoy Midnight Diner (La Cantine de Minuit), the manga that was adapted as the TV show (also awesome). So when I saw there was a short spinoff focused on one of the many recurring characters in Midnight Diner (the Yūsaku in the title) I knew I had to give it a go. Unfortunately, the shorter stories in Yūsaku au crépuscule (Yūsaku at dusk) never really have time to soar, they feel like vignettes about food, and as a consequence the book lacks the depth that Midnight Diner often manages to reach. Pleasant, but ultimately disappointing.
