The World is on Fire by Isaiah Collier

I heard live in the studio versions of some of these tunes on a KEXP video, and the raw energy of this jazz quartet floored me. I immediately purchased the album, and while it's good jazz, even very good, a couple of listens made me realise that it lacks something besides the energy. Once you digest the music, you realise that there's nothing much that's distinctive compared to dozens of Coltrane influenced jazz artists. I initially compared this to Maisha, but that band (sadly demised, I suspect) brought in a lot of influences from African roots and Afrobeat music, it made the sound their own. Not sure this album will stand the test of time.
