The Double

The Double

I had long wanted to look into Richard Ayoade's movies, but for some reason never came around to it. I finally watched The Double with my wife and son. Truthfully, I don't know what to make of it. I think it's masterful on many levels (acting, filming, etc.) but it made me incredibly uncomfortable. And I think it's meant to. Certainly my recollections from reading the Gogol short story it's inspired from are that they conveyed a lot of unease. But I don't like this kind of uncomfortableness I suppose. In conclusion, I'd still recommend it, especially if you like the visuals of Brazil, Delicatessen and other alt-dystopic fiction.
