Rorschach by Tom King
I have studiously avoided all forms of Watchmen spinoffs in graphic novel format, although I confess to really enjoying the wacky but true to the spirit Watchmen TV series of 2019, which is a sequel, not an adaptation. Still, on the recommendations of my son, I read Tom King's Rorschach and I have to admit it's really quite good. Truth be told, it has very little to do with Watchmen apart from the fact that it sits 20 years down the line from the epilogue of the original graphic novel, and the world has been changed by the events at the end of that book. Ironically, while it centres on a character which we assume is an older Rorschach, that's the only bit I didn't find wholly convincing. But if I abstract that mostly useless piece of information, the book, the story and how it resonates today are all super convincing. I very much recommend it even if, like me, you are weary of Watchmen spinoffs.
