Small Prophets
I'd loved the first two seasons of Detectorists a decade ago (although the 3rd, for reasons I can't remember, left me cold) and I was thrilled that McKenzie Crook had a new show on. He plays a smaller (though very funny) part in this one but is writing and directing. Small Prophets is a strange tale of small town Britain, one in which Michael has been living alone for 7 years, ever since his partner Clea vanished. Everyone thinks she's dead, or worse commited suicide, but Michael cannot accept that. When his ailing dad tells him about Homonculi that know the truth and how to make them, Michael's life, and that of his work fried Kacey, take a strange turn. It's bizarre, lovely, quiet and funny. It has a soft ending that's clearly open for a second season, but it really works as is as well, if you're into odd TV. Loved it.
