Lucky Luke Dakota 1880 by Appollo and Brüno

Lucky Luke Dakota 1880 by Appollo and Brüno

Lucky Luke is a staple of my youth and teenage years (although I'm not clear now where I got to read them) and I bought collected editions as an adult for my kids to enjoy. The franchise was fantastically (but ephemerally) revived by Mathieu Bonhomme with his excellent Qui a Tué Lucky Luke ? (Who killed Lucky Luke?) and I haven't really followed any subsequent publications. Until this one. I love Brüno, and his collaborations with Appollo are always amazing. And I was floored by how good this collection of short stories linked together is, and the (I believe fictional) backstory to the album. It's really quite magical, insisting on the more humane side of Lucky Luke, touching on topics the historical series didn't dwell on too much and gorgeously drawn by Brüno. An absolute winner.
