The Ballad of Wallis Island
I quite like Tim Key's TV persona, a mix of funny and wacky and so I expected this movie to be a good off kilter British comedy. It isn't. While there are funny moments, and even more awkward moments, at heart this is a very melancholy story about music and the emotions it carries with it. A famous folk musician is paid a lot of money to come do a private concert on a remote island off the coast of England, and as he slowly understands what it being asked of him, things start to unravel. I loved the movie to bits, the music is magnificent (despite me not being a big fan of folk) and the emotions ring so very true. Fantastic, highly recommended.
