Lead Belly's Gold by Eric Bibb & Jean-Jacques Milteau
I'm generally a fan of Jean-Jacques Milteau's work : I know of few harmonica players who have managed to stick to blues yet develop their own vocabulary within the idiom. I only knew Eric Bibb by name, but expected nonetheless to enjoy this record. Unfortunately, I didn't really get into it, and I think in this instance it's the source material that's just not my thing. I never liked country/folk blues much, it lacks rawness to my ears. Which isn't so much a criticism of that musical genre (or sub-genre), just a matter of personal tastes. As a consequence, and despite the quality of the interpretations on Lead Belly's Gold, they remain Lead Belly songs, which I don't really care for.
