The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien

After re-reading Unfinished Tales and still not satiated with Middle Earth goodness I went back to The Hobbit. Again, a very different book from what my mind image of it was. Is it a children's tale ? Yes, but it's so much more than that. It's fascinating to glimpse the hints and bits of a much broader world in between the cracks of the children's story. And even so, it's a more mature children's tale than most you would find today. In short, much deeper than the book I remember, and not just a prequel to the LotR but a masterpiece in its own right.
