Unfinished tales by JRR Tolkien

Unfinished tales by JRR Tolkien

I'd read Unfinished Tales twenty something years ago at the height of my Tolkien craze. Distant memories suggested a collection of nice and poetic but very secondary texts. This time around, I found it both fantastic and fascinating. Fantastic because Tolkien's writing is wonderful, no matter in which context, and the stories are engrossing even when unfinished. I'd completely forgotten about the wonderful tale of Aldarion and Erendis for example. But even more than that, for the first time I realised the colossal work done by Christopher Tolkien to bring some sort of coherence to the Tolkienverse and I found the footnotes and commentary if anything more engrossing than the tales themselves.
