Hit me, Fred by Fred Wesdley Jr.
Funk luminary Fred Wesley's autobiography (published in 2002, so missing close to two decades). I love musician's autobiographies in general and this one is no exception, but the distinguishing feature is that Wesley does not sugarcoat much. There's no political correctness in there, and Fred's blunt assessments of his peers is refreshing and entertaining. The book is really good in the first 2/3rds and waffles a bit in the last third. Ultimately, this is a reflection on what it means to be forever a sideman.
