The Raven that Refused to Sing by Steven Wilson

The Raven that Refused to Sing by Steven Wilson

A good friend sent me this record for xmas and I have to say it's an impressive piece of music. Wilson is a prog afficionado (he supervised many King Crimson reissues and incidentally fronts Porcupine Tree) but this solo project, while clearly rooted in Prog soil doesn't feel to me like an archetypal prog rock album. Who cares anyway, the label doesn't make the music. I really love listening to this album although for now I can't pinpoint to any particular song that sticks out. Maybe that's its ultimate prog allegiance actually: a fantastic album as a whole with no "singles". I love that it's quintessentially British, I love the little snippets of influence or hommage to Yes, to Pink Floyd, to King Crimson, always fleeting. A really really great piece of music.
