The Imperial Blues Years by T-Bone Walker
This is a double CD of 50s material by west coast blues master T-Bone Walker. I have to confess to have largely passed by T-Bone until now. What little I'd heard lacked grit and I dismissed it as not being for me. Having listened to this a couple of times, I have to admit having been completely wrong. Yes, T-Bone is suave, but in a good, jazzy way reminiscent of early Charles Brown. But there's also a rock n' roll edge to these sides, and many of them swing as all hell. In a nutshell: blues masterpiece.
