The Wild Robot by Peter Brown
I bought this in an airport bookstore with a 4 for the price of 3 promotion. I didn't really know what I was getting into. Turns out this is a very young adult (or old kid) novel. But a rather good and endearing one, and beautifully illustrated in a retro style. It's a story of breaking one's program (or is it ?), of motherhood, of ecology. It's full of good feelings, but ends on a bittersweet note. I would have loved reading this when I was 10, and I still enjoyed it at 45.
