I have faint memories of the book. I remember being intrigued by the world building but essentially confused by the plot itself. I have read a fair bit of criticism about Altered Carbon but I have to say that I think they did a fantastic job of outlining in a much clearer way a complex intrigue that truly taps into cyberpunk and sci-fi concepts, more so than probably any I've seen so far. I wasn't entirely convinced on some of the actors early on, but they grew on me (especially Martha Higareda whose initial wooden performance threw me off but can be in part explained when the plot unfolds later). In a nutshell, an ambitious futuristic thriller that absolutely works, and that's more than good enough for me. I'll probably try and give the book another shot to see where things diverged.
