Black Times by Seun Kuti

Black Times by Seun Kuti

Of the two successful sons of Fela Kuti, Seun is the one whose flame burns closest to the source, and that's both a good and a bad thing. Good because he contributes his youthful energy to reviving the afrofunk genre his father spearheaded, bad because it's hard to renew yourself when you're so directly associated with such a heavy inheritence. I adored From Africa with Fury and A Long Way to the Beginning, and Black Times is... more of the same. Which is to say that I don't know what I expected, but I feel like I've heard this already. Hence a slight dissapointment on my part.
