Who's Happy? by Hugh Coltman
I really liked Coltman's previous album, a Nat King Cole hommage, but in many ways it was a very classic crooner album. Who's Happy? sounds more personal and resonates with me because it was recorded in New Orleans and exudes a certain NOLA je ne sais quoi. Actually je sais quoi: with 2/3 of the Stanton Moore trio backing him (Torkanowski and Singleton), Coltman taps into the New Orleans sound without producing a pastiche which would quickly get tiring. It's an upbeat, solar album that I can strongly recommend to all (you don't have to be into jazz to like this).
