Whispers Underground by Ben Aaronovitch

Whispers Underground by Ben Aaronovitch

I remember when I first read this thinking that the world building was too much. And it does stretch believability to a point just outside what I can easily work with. On the other hand, rereading this, I find a bit of very interesting character development and a series that is starting to find its stride, going into the roots of London history in more interesting ways each time. Still a bit formulaic, but it's an efficient formula.
