L'Altro Sguardo - Italian Photography 1965-2018

L'Altro Sguardo - Italian Photography 1965-2018

With a few hours to spare in Rome I headed out to the Palazzio delle Esposizionni for an exhibition of Italian Photography. I ended up frustrated rather than elated, mostly because the most interesting photographs in my opinion were the early ones, and they were too few and in small prints, whereas the more recent ones were numerous, big, and not all that interesting, I felt. So a curation issue more than anything from my POV. The vibrancy of the early years gives way over time to a very intellectual approach to photography that felt cold to me. I realise this is my tastes more than anything, but I didn't even buy the exhibition catalog, and that's saying something when you know me...
