The Final Cut

The Final Cut

I saw this at the time of the theater release and had a really fond memory of it (although I couldn't remember much details). The plot is really compelling: in a not too distant future, babies in utero can be "enhanced" with an implant that records all of their visual and audio memory but can only be accessed upon their death. Robin Williams (Alan) plays a star cutter, one of the guys who edits those memories for memorial videos. When he is awarded the contract for a leading business attorney's memories, things start going south. I love the performance, I find the Dickian pitch fantastic, but I have to admit that the ending is flat, as if the scenario writers simply didn't know how to end it satisfyingly. Still, I think it's worth seeing although not the hidden masterpiece I remembered.
