Born a Crime by Trevor Noah

Born a Crime by Trevor Noah

I like Trevor Noah a lot, and watch the daily show when I can. I'd been meaning to read Born a Crime for a while, and enjoyed it a lot although to be fair their are segments which I found less interesting. The book is fascinating when exploring what is distinctive in the South Africa where Noah was born and how it shaped him. It is less interesting when he talks about his first loves which are fundamentally not very different from any other teen's early dalliances. Thankfully there's more of the former than of the latter, and what I learned about apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa is worth it alone. It's well written, light in tone (though not laugh out loud funny). A good book worth reading.
