Hello Viviane by Golo Zhao

Hello Viviane by Golo Zhao

I loved Zhao's La Balade de Yaya, a child's road movie journey through war torn China. I didn't get Entre Ciel et Terre, which I don't think I finished. Hello Viviane is kind of in between the two. It's graphically gorgeous, with compelling characters, but it's an unconvincing story. Zhao's poetic meanderings don't add to the story, they just distract you from it. Ultimately, to me, it's a failure.
