The B-Side: Elsa Dorfman's Portrait Photography
I was looking for photography documentaries on Netflix and this one is the only one that came up (at least here in HK). It was interesting, in a low key kind of way. Elsa Dorfman is a portrait photographer who used massive polaroids her entire life and career. The documentary explores both the nature of portrait photography (I like that Dorfman states that she doesn't believe in capturing the soul, it's all about the surface), some key subjects and moments (she was friends with Ginsberg) and the impact of Polaroid shutting down had on her. It's not thrilling or exciting, but it is fascinating if you're into photography.
