Tribute to Stéphane & Django by Roby Lakatos & Biréli Lagrène

Tribute to Stéphane & Django by Roby Lakatos & Biréli Lagrène

I don't know if there's a "trend" starting to interpret Django's songbook with a big band (following the superb Django by the Amazing Keystone) but this album is definitely in that vein. It's a fun listen, very much in the hard hitting swing vein. Where it doesn't stand up to the aformentioned Django is in the pedestrian arrangements. I was also a little dissapointed at Bireli's electric sound which is surprisingly less powerful (in my opinion) than his acoustic sound. Still, it's a good and fun listen, just not an album that will stand the test of time.
