I used to enjoy watching Letterman reruns, at least until I discovered Craig Ferguson's show (Letterman's looked stale and formulaic compared to that) but I gave his new "show" on Netflix a chance. It's not really a show, it's more like a relaxed interview, interspersed with little bits of on location stuff. It's a bit clunky, to be honest, and it doesn't always work, but the six interviews of this first seasons are, at the core, all interesting. The goofiness that he can't help infuse isn't always appropriate (and a bit cringe inducing in the episode with Malala Yousafzai) but altogether I quite enjoyed these interviews. It's like Letterman is finally getting to take the time to do things a bit more in-depth without sacrificing the lightness of tone that has always been his.
