Open by Marsh Dondurma

Open by Marsh Dondurma

At the top of my list of bands I'd like to see live before I die is Marsh Dondurma. Unfortunately they're based in Israel and me in Hong Kong, and it's a 14 piece band, which means they don't get to tour much. So I make do with recorded releases every few years, and Open is the latest. The previous album had some tunes that departed from the core style of the band (with singers, more mellow) and that was cool, but this tight EP is back to basics. Jambo, the opener, sets the tone with a hard backbeat, powerful riffs and the low end giving the counterpoint to the melody. If you don't want to jump up and dance, you're dead inside. The other four tracks are just as good, with a preference for the deliciously panoriental Khlopsti. There is however, one massive downside to Open: it's only 5 tracks damnit! Waaaay too short !!!
