Song of Lahore
I like music documentaries, but few if any have the depth and intensity of Song of Lahore. The movie starts with interviews of various musicians in Lahore deploring the loss of their trade due to the imposition of Shariah Law in the 70s and the long lasting impact on their livelihood and reputation. But some of the old guys put a band together and decide to cover Brubeck's Take 5 using classical Pakistani forms and instruments. It goes viral, and they're invited to play at the Lincoln Jazz Center with Wynton Matsalis' big band. A wonderful story of the redemption of downtrodden musicians, moving and (obviously) with great music. Thanks Tariq Ashraf for recommending it.
